With an inherent need to be creative and resourceful, Megan Turnbull works as a new media artist and director. Working in a variety of mediums such as; video, animation, paper sculpture, and illustration.
The summer of 2010 Megan spent working at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB/ONF) studios in Montreal. There she completed an intensive animation apprenticeship in stereoscopic 3D and finished a stop-motion film called, ‘Unlaced:Delace’. This film has been screened at the ‘Get Animated International Animation Day’ at the Mediatheque in Toronto, at the NFB in Montreal, and at ‘Electric Fields Festival’ in Ottawa. At these festivals, Megan has participated on panel discussions and presentations about the artistic process of working in stop-motion stereoscopic 3D.
In June 2009 she received the SAW video JumpsART Grant, and was mentored by Ottawa artist Firuz Daud. In 2009 she completed the Digital Multimedia Technology: Video Production and Motion Graphics Program at Red River College.
Megan’s diverse creative style also lends itself to contracting in the advertising world. Currently she is working on multiple video projects with Banfield Seguin Ltd.
Prior to her work as an artist and director Megan Turnbull worked in Hong Kong as a Assistant Landscape Architect, at Urbis International Ltd.. In 2005 she graduated with a B.E.D. degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Manitoba, in her hometown of Winnipeg.
Megan is always looking to collaborate on good ideas with creative people. She has directed and created various community involvement projects, including The Collaborative Stop-Motion Project at Ottawa’s ‘Mini-Maker-Faire’ and ‘Wednesday Night Paper Play Soirees’.
Her current works in progress involve an animated series of ‘choose your own adventures’ In addition to these projects Megan still makes time for more serious endeavors, like hula-hooping.
